VOICE (Vocational Initiatives for Community Empowerment) program aims in enabling women and girls, and members of their family to take greater control of their wellbeing, and contribute to the social, economic and environmental harmony and sustainability within the community they live. VOICE provides the opportunities to the members of the community in Machang especially the poor and the lower income groups the vocational education needed to improve their livelihood. The project is designed to ensure that participants will not only learn and gain new skills on the production methods but also on business and social skills for growth and sustainability.

Machang was chosen as the first VOICE project with 30 women from 30 households including their spouses were selected to participate in the program activities. This project emphasize that the business activities undertaken by the women are to be supported by their spouses. The spouse involvement will help to foster better understanding and strengthening of family values, and increases the success rate of the businesses.
